Saturday Breakfast - August 8th, 7:30 Meet Dr. Barry from DeBary That is Dr Wayne Barry of Community UMC in DeBary, FL. Dr Barry became involved in missions work in Haiti before and after the earthquake struck. Dr. Barry, a physician from a Jewish family, came to know and accept Jesus Christ as his Savior. He helped set up medical work teams in Haiti through the University of Central Florida, Living in Faith, and Double Harvest at a farm outside Port-au-Prince where thousands of victims of the earthquake were treated. He and his family helped his daughter Caryn rally their church behind sending thousands of pairs of shoes to Haiti. Dr. Barry is an active member of DeBary’s Men’s Bible Study Team and received inspiration at a number of Men’s retreats at Leesburg. His call to Haiti came in a vision of “someone in a white robe” appearing to him a year before the earthquake. He’s made a number of visits with his family and his pastor to Haiti since. He is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and Candler School of Theology and has Doctorates from Bethune Cookman College and Florida Southern College. His story telling ability is his specialty and he is a master at using this ability to teach Biblical truths. This gift has also made him a favorite speaker Bishop James Swanson Sr., Bishop Swanson uses his gift of knowing how to work with people of divergent opinions while at the same time keeping focused on the goal at hand. The church has a mission to make a difference in the world. I want to see the church having fun doing that, that’s my dream. Whether we want to admit it or not, God made us diverse. None of us is the same. But while race and ethnicity matter, they should never be elevated in the Christian community and the Kingdom of God…(and) they pale in the comparison to the fact we’re brothers and sisters in Christ. That’s paramount in my life. I’m a child of God. I like to say, `We need to catch the fish before we can clean them.’" Worship Leader:

VAN MINISTRY SEEKING DRIVERS In recent years, Asbury UMC has provided transportation to the 11:00 Sunday worship services for those unable to drive themselves, shut-ins, and those in nursing homes. This ministry is in real need of more drivers to provide this service. Volunteers share Sunday responsibilities for one month a year. If you can help, contact Dennis Stevenson at 407-539-0021 or e-mail him at lee7363@aol.com. MY COMMITMENT As a member of UNITED METHODIST MEN, I commit myself to: - Seek daily Christ's way of life through prayer and Bible reading; - Bear witness to this way in my daily work and all personal contacts through my words and actions; - Engage in some definite Christian service by recognizing that I work in partnership with God in the stewardship of my life. Members are requested to carry this card as a reminder of your commitment to Jesus Christ and His church and that you are part of something of real importance to your church and your community. Membership is on a calendar year basis and must be renewed annually through your fellowship of United Methodist Men. Revised: July 28, 2010 |
